MEETING GOD
In the desert, we meet God. In parched times, in fire and flood, we discover who we are… Do you want to go to that other place... Where the streets have no name? You can call it “soul” or “imagination,” the place where you glimpse God, your potential... November 3, 2005 ー Interview with Jann Wenner (Rolling Stone)
…it is impossible to meet God with sunglasses on. It is impossible to meet God without abandon, without exposing yourself, being raw. 2005 ー Bono: In Conversation with Michka Assayas
Why do we need art? Why do we the lyric poetry of the Psalms? Why do we need it? Because the only way we can approach God, is (if we’re honest) through metaphor, through symbol. It’s a mind-blowing concept that the God who created the Universe might be looking for company, a real relationship with people. 2005 ー Bono: In Conversation with Michka Assayas
Judeo Christianity is about the idea that God is interested in you ー as opposed to a god is interested in you. This was a radical thought: that God who created the universe might be interested in me... It is the most extraordinary thought. 1994 ー Race of Angels: The Genesis of U2 ー John Waters
Every second of every hour is to be enjoyed. There’s a passage in Jeremiah 29 ー “And you will seek me and find me when you shall search for me with all your heart.” February 1982 ー Bono: In His Own Words ー Dave Thompson (Published 1998)
When I wake up in the morning, I sort of hold out my hand out ー spiritually ー and I reach for what you might call God. Sometimes I don’t feel God, and I feel lonely. I feel on my own, and I wonder where God is. And then… I ask God: “Where have you gone?” God usually replies in a way that is hard to describe: "I haven't gone anywhere.'"[laughs] "Where have you gone? I haven't moved.” 2005 ー Bono: In Conversation with Michka Assayas
We have a pastor who said to us, he says: "Stop asking God to bless what you're doing, Bono." Which by the way, I constantly do. He said, "Find out what God is doing, 'cause it's already blessed." And when you align yourself with God's purpose as described in the Scriptures, something special happens to your life. You're in alignment. You start to get into alignment. June 25, 2013 – Interview with Jim Daly (Focus on the Family)
You know, I have to find God. You have to put it right. That’s what the problem is. You have to put it right. 2005 ー Bono: In Conversation with Michka Assayas
