LOVE
All my favourite words are stolen.... They're all gone, meaningless.... Wherever I look, words have been used up. Gone. They don't mean anything. God. Light. Sex. And the most powerful word has got to be love, but the fight is on for that one. March 9, 1989 ー "Now What?" by Steve Pond (Rolling Stone)
There's nothing more revolutionary than two people loving each other. One, 'cause it's so uncommon these days, and two, 'cause it's so difficult to do.
2006 ー 1001 Songs: The Great Songs of All Time and the Artists, Stories, and Secrets by Toby Creswell
I think the opposite of love is not hate. It's apathy. You only get angry about things you really care about. March 4, 1993 ー "Bono, Behind The Fly: The Rolling Stone Interview" by Alan Light (Rolling Stone)
…in my experience, the older you get, the less chance you have to transform your life, the less open you are to love in a challenging way. You tend towards love that’s more comforting and safe. 2005 ー Bono: In Conversation with Michka Assayas
Love and mercy… Mercy is the outworking of love, but love demands that you try to see things from another person’s point of view. 2005 ー Bono: In Conversation with Michka Assayas
I would say the job of love... is to realize the potential of others, so if you're doing that equally in a relationship and both of you are fixed on realizing each other's potential, you're probably gonna get places. However, if that's a one-way street, I think it's a very different matter. June 25, 2013 – Interview with Jim Daly (Focus on the Family)
I have to admit I wasn’t all that nice a little boy. I was a bold little boy… I used to give a lot of people a hard time… Like for instance, my mother died a few years ago, and… I realized that maybe I hadn’t ever shown any real affection towards her or anything. I was a very selfish person. But still a mother’s love is like “if you walk away, walk away, I will follow” ー no matter what you do. And then it goes right on up into eternal love, you could think of God’s love, because I can’t figure out why God would still love people. And yet I believe he’s got that same... love. April 1985 ー Interview with WAPP Hot 103 (New York, USA)
The whole thing about driving cars into swimming pools ー that's not rebellion... Rebellion starts at home, in your heart, in your refusal to compromise your beliefs and your values. I'm not interested in politics like people fighting back with sticks and stones, but in the politics of love. June 9, 1983 ー "Blessed Are The Peacemakers" by James Henke (Rolling Stone)
